Nuclear Decommissioning
As Nuclear facilities reach their end-of-life phase, decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) are needed to prepare the facility for final disposition whether that is reuse or demolition.
These processes require management of a broad range of hazardous contaminants that can include volatile organics, heavy metals, PCBs, and asbestos, as well as radioactive materials such as transuranics, tritium, and highly active isotopes of iodine, strontium, and caesium to name a few.
Dealing safely with these hazards requires constant compliance with a complex regulatory framework, necessary to ensure the safe disposition of materials while observing D&D guidelines, workers safety, cost and schedule restraints. This combination makes the D&D compliance work very labour intensive.
To maintain D&D programs truly compliant, a D&D system that can help deal with complex regulatory environments, manage safety program and ensure all D&D policies and procedures are always followed is needed.
QAvalid is designed to help manage even the most challenging D&D projects in the world, those being decommissioning of highly contaminated former nuclear weapons facilities, nuclear reactors, military and industrial buildings or research facilities.
QAvalid will also help manage the complete documentation of compliance with all regulations and safety procedures (for instance, in United States - Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, part 20 subpart E, and parts 50.75, 50.82, 51.53, and 51.95 – NRC) during shutdown, removal of fissile material, decontamination, decommissioning, safe storage, site closure, environmental restoration and license termination activities.
